Happy new used Rocket owner here!

Took my R3(2007)Classic into the shop to have new tires, ECM pads and fluid changed, bevel box pulled and shaft spline greased, Bevel box fluid changed(could not get fill plug off) and I supplied the tires, pads, and plugs to the dealers chagrin.

So after a day I get a call saying "we found a corroded fuel line while doing the plugs" and that part is 185 dollars and "looks to be seeping fuel". He further added this part tends to corrode out every 5 years and also one of my front fork seals may be bad-they won't know until the tech rides and checks it.

Err...every 5 years? What is this made of and I did look the part up.

Don't want to get all cynical but all the labor was going to cost 380 for the tires, pads, plugs, brake and bevel box change of the syntrax etc...Not sure if he was factoring in the labor for the fuel rail/line change. So min I am in about 600 bones plus the 500 for the tires, pads and battery.....Err...should have bought the 09 with 5K miles on it in Daytona Beach not the one in my Hometown with 18K miles on it...LOL.

Mostly I am wondering if you guys have had this happen to you. The folks at the dealership are good people and I tend to get overly cynical easy.

Thanks for your advice and I did know the bike would need new tires when I bought it for 6K.

Cheers...Greg

I am lucky My 05, 06, and my 07 have original fuel lines on them. Not thats yours is not leaking I just wouldn't put money down on them going every 5 years. In fact in all the years I have been on the Rocket forums I do not ever remember this item going bad.

If your going to get at the fuel rail I would change her over to triple filters or the Ram Air so the crap is not in your way.

I am not trying to push you that way but if it weren't for the plastic strangle boxes and hoses you can pull the rail in say less then 10 minutes. and say 15 minutes to change the plugs.

Warp..Thanks for the reply....

You said..

That makes me feel I am getting clipped by a dealer that knows I do not know anything specific.

I will chime in on the fork seal before having it done....I do not want to get forked!

WELL you bought the bike at a cheap price and at 18k miles im sure you looked at the tires when you bought it and saw the tires where worn and ifyou bought the one in Daytona that had 5k on it you would have had to drive and pick it up or have it shipped and that would cost something so you still made out well . Never heard of any corroded fuel lines the fork seal can be cleaned as it probably has a little dirt in the seal a common problem they have a little plastic tool you can buy to clean seals

Thanks guys!

Err..yes I did call and say hold onto that part as I want to be able to check the new one for corrosion going forward and that I was going to do the K and N conversion and if it needs to be changed every 5 years I want to be able to get to it. They said the bike is disassembled and they cant tell with the Fork until it is assembled and they ride it?

Not like I am in the position to accuse a Triumph dealer when I do not know anything specific about R3's and they even installed my Tires...The Honda/Kawi shop in town will not work on ANY BIKE not purchased from them...So we have a range of service here and I am grateful this Triumph shop will work on a bike I brought all the parts in on. The Augusta Ducati Triumph dealer will not do that.

So as was said...Got a good deal.....Love the bike and the only BS I am taking is from the wifey which is to be expected after my multiple crashes on ****** Rockets racing other ones.

Thanks for the input and I will report back when I hear on that seal and will recommend they clean it.

Not sure what that part would cost to buy and install but someone prep me on that!

Thanks and ride safe.

Greg

18k miles and 9 years on. A lot of things can go bad in 9 years, it all depends on how the bike was maintained and stored when not being ridden.

Claviger...

Good point...Stored badly. Most definitely compared to how I keep my bikes..Nearly in a Carcoon. Under the seat(after I was able to get it off) it was very dusty and dirty and the Redneck I bought it from was dubious at best. Hence the deal I drove. What does not make sense is how a fuel rail/line would corrode yet all the breather hoses and rubber on the bike is very pliable and looks great. They use aluminum as valleys and flashing pans on roofs of homes(I use copper) and as Warp and others say never seen a bad one .

THE BIG QUESTION IS...Is this part used on other triples or just the Rocket and what is it made of...Aluminum or stainless?

Thanks...Greg
