rocket iii touring, sprint st 955
New r3 touring rider here only got a 150 miles on her so far. I have noticed that if I shift in to neutral at long lights it does not like to go back into first. I have to start in 2nd twice. Any thoughts?

I always keep her in gear at lights, but I have the same issue with my Roadster while I let her warm up. Rock 'er a little bit she slips into gear. No other problems.

+ 1 on what ck said, it's new and tight will get easier as you run her in.
Thank you. I was not too worried still got warranty. Just curious. I had a Suzuki that always did that but my sprint never had an issue.

It will get better after your first oil change when the dyno oil is exchanged for full synth. However, also check that the clutch free play is correct. It is VERY important that it be right.

It's a problem as old as the rocket. She just doesn't like to lock into first from neutral when sitting still. Nothing to be alarmed at. Easiest way if you really like neutral at a light is to put her in first before green, let out the clutch a little (she'll pop out), shift back in and you're good to go!

Just pump the clutch a couple times before you try to put her in gear.
And as Ian stated make sure your clutch free play is correct. not enough and the fibers along with the steels will drag making her shift harder and noisy/grind/clunk.

I have taken off in second gear many times without realising particularly if on a level road or slight downhill slope, it doesn't seem to worry the bike on a light throttle

I select neutral while still rolling to a stop (after checking my mirrors -so I don't get cleaned up from behind) then sit at the lights with both hands free - always selects first with a good clunk. Saves wearing the clutch plunger thing too.

I thought it was a shaft drive thing. Never really likes to go into gear without shaking her about. Hate holding her in gear at lights. Might try your idea Tony.
