2005 ROCKET SE
I only have 9000 miles on my Rocket III because I also have a 2005 Fatboy now 16000 miles, bought that one new. I purchased the Rocket shortly after riding the Triumph at Sturgis. Hope Triumph returns to Sturgis with real bike demos, Sturgis alreadly has plenty of t-shirt shops. Tell me about a seat / back rest for the R3. I have a Mustang seat on the Fatboy & I have riden 900 miles in one day, no problem. I love that Mustang, the back rest is sweet!!! I added an automotive type cruise control to the R3 by following instructions I found on this site. It's an (Amazon.com) audiobox 100 auto cruise for a manual transmission Honda, holds up hill/ down hill at speeds as low as 35 mph. Installed it two years ago after hearing about it in Sturgis. I'm 62 and still working, so I can't ride as much as I would like. Plan to retire in two years & travel.

Triumph offers a backrest, but you either have to have their seat with the cutout for it,
or be able to do that part yourself.
Another option is the Utopia backrest.
They offer one for the standard seat with the little pileon,
it bolts to the same holes as the p-pad.
It don't really matter which way you go,
EVERY Rocket Rider needs one or the other IMHO.
here's the Utopia link.

Rocket saddle

I went with the Corbin dual tour heated ( replaced hip etc. It helps) it rides like a good western saddle once you break it in. Also they have several different backrests available.
I bought mine through my local dealer for the same price as direct. That was a plus for me as the first one they sent me was off the mark & dealer handled the return BS

I have a dual touring seat off a Classic with rider's backrest and love it. Think I'm the only person on here who likes the Triumph seats but I'm very happy with this set up, even on a longish trip. You see them on eBay sometimes.

question on dimensions of dual tour seat

can you let me know the width of the passenger portion of the dual tour seat and if any passengers noticed an improvement in comfort for the long haul. thanks !

I have the triumph gel rider and passenger seats with the utopia backrest for the rider and the triumph backrest for the pillion my wife loved the pillion straight away I on the other hand was very disappointed at first I even got another gel pad to put under the sealskin covers but by the time it had arrived and meanwhile having done about 6,000 klm's the seat actully started to break in and is now quit comfortable without even the sheepskin, you will read and hear a lot of horror stories about them getting hot in summer but I have not found this to be the case. In short apart from a very long Breackin period they are great and I wouldn't have any thing else I might add while the gel pillion appears a bit small it's big enough for my wife's cute little butt:D:D;)

Just went and measured it for you Dan and the riders seat is 11&3/4" widest to widest.
My daughter likes it a lot better than the p-pad.
Her butt would go numb after 30 minutes on the p-pad.
She's rode 3+ hours without complaint now.
The backrest for me, is great too.
