Metzeler Garbage

Might be you could run a bit less pressure in the front...say 36-38...the wear pattern on your photo is kinda funny looking...if it's over inflated..it will wear in the Centre more....makes sense huh...

Manual recommends 34/42 if I remember correctly

I got 4500 miles off my OEM Metzeler.
A true POS for use on the R3R.
That’s what I got out of my last one. Not knowing any better I put another one on. After my modded bike gets out of the shop I bet I’ll burn it off in no time. I’ll not buy another one and will try something different.

Were I you, now with a pumped up engine, I would only use the remaining life of your second Metzler for pavement coloring - not riding!

I am just amazed that they can sell such a crap tire. This is what mine looks like after a whopping 7000 easy miles. No wonder my handling went to hell.

Reading only the orignal post, here's my read on that tire:

You corner moderately hard, riding 10-15 over the limit regularly, but don't go for extreme lean angles. You are consistent on the throttle through the turn, holding steady input most of it. You don't brake late usually, and are a generally safe/conservative rider.

The Metzler M880 is a sub-par tire. Flat out, it's only "acceptable", nothing more.

Switch to an Avon and enjoy increased grip, feel, and turn in input. Additionally, enjoy even wear and a tire you actually finish across the whole tread instead of just the sides.

Sorry, I'm a bit in the bottle at the moment, however, I'd suggest lowering pressure a touch. The R3T will be significantly rear weight biased, meaning, you can drop the front from 40 to 36 PSI, it'll help both increase grip and even out the wear.

Wow Claviger,
If I take a picture of my palm, could you give me my life story too?
Just joking. You are pretty much correct as to your conservative assessment of my riding style.
I ride for the sheer pleasure of riding, not speeding. I have too much to live for.
Maybe with less front pressure, that tire would have lasted longer.
I know my last ride before winter storage, I was really having a hard time controlling my cornering lines.
I should not have waited so long to change it.
Take care Eric

I couldn't agree with you more,Eric. Stock Metzlers=total crap. Switched to Avons and they feel/handle much better. I'm sure the mileage will be better too.
