Great thread guys! I've had a read through and think I'm now good to go, minus getting my hands on some grease. Couple of questions that I don't think I noticed - there is a spring in the rear, is there one in the front too? I know with some splines adapters, they need to be aligned when installing. Are there any alignment marks to be wary of? Or can the male portion just slide on in where ever it suits?

No spring in the front and no alignment required.
I used string to raise the shaft when remounting the bevel drive. Worked well.
Not seen it mentioned before…watch out for two hollow spacer things that go in two of the four stud holes. Had me confused when they fell out.

As an addition to what's been said, that spring, yeah, can be a pain, it wants to drop down (naturally) and then the splines and the bevel box won't align. I got round this by putting a decent dollop of wheel bearing grease in the end of the splined shaft, put the spring in and it stayed aligned. No leakage or issues since I did mine, so I'm calling it good.

Thanks to those who replied to my question yesterday. For the grease, and @Kiwicol you may know, being a kiwi as well, what's your thoughts on this grease?

It’s not what you need for the splines. You need Moly paste which needs to be at least 60% Moly. This is what I used.

Swinging arm is so full of holes it's impossible to keep the shaft clean. Cleaning and lubing from time to time seems to be a good idea. On the other hand, I never lubed in it 62K Km. This is the first time I see it. Looks like it could use a bath...

Sweet, that's what I wanted to know. Thanks
Thorough degreasing and cleaning before applying MoS paste is important. And not just smear it, rub both parts patiently with a soft toothbrush. The idea is to push the molly inside the micropores and well on the surface. Make-up is not effective, regardless of how much molly you paint with. Massage is better :)

If it were a true maintenance issue, I would have expected to see in in the service table upto 64k kms. It isn't. That said, I like to keep on top of things and keep the bike mint

Yeah, too light on the Moly, that's 3% ya really want 50% or more. I used this stuff, just google search where you can get it from. Moly assembly paste isn't cheap, but a tube like this will last you years, ya don't need a lot of it. Just search GA50. Where about in NZ are ya?
