I'm trying to get a list together to try and help my mechanic with my high idle issue. I am purely looking for a list of the common fixes to give them, not a how to. Here's my list so far from most common cause to least that I've found searching the forums. Please let me know if there are any i'm missing that I can give to them. Thanks.

1. Primary TPS (making sure its got the blue innards, followed by 12 min tune)
2. Idle stepper motor
3. Crank angle sensor (could have metal shavings stuck to it)
4. Throttle Bodies (loose)
5. Plastic Adjustment Gear (dirty)
6. Vacuum Lines (cracked, loose) - thanks Kmutt!

My 05 R3 has been at my local dealership for over 3 weeks and they cant find the cause. Last they said is they've called larger dealerships on the east coast and Triumph itself (themselves?) and are waiting to hear from them. I've been telling them about the primary TPS and until I talked to the service manager today (Oct 26th) seemed like they were really reluctant to do anything about it since its not a constant problem and their test come out fine. Oh and I believe they did replace the secondary TPS since that was showing a ~ .3 when the primary was at ~.7. Once I get a good list I can edit this to just have the list to hopefully help others with this trouble down the line.

I have heard of vacuum lines being cracked and causing excess air to enter throttle bodies and causing high idle issue.....or vacuum line that have come off. Check every one under the tank and connected to the throttle bodies. Some one should come along to give you better info on this but you can add it to the list.......:D

Good Luck

No, that was perfect! Just possible causes are all I'm looking for. I'm essentially making a checklist to give the mechanics that arent sure what to do. Thanks!

If you have never changed the primary TPS and its a 05 spend the 135 bucks and change set the secondary per manual it and then do a full ISCV reset. Then ride the the beast away and get the grin on your face fixed. Their gauges will not detect a TPS starting to fail unless you take it off, smack it flat with a hammer and then let them test it :D

I agree with Warp.
The scan test the dealer performs will show your PRIMARY TPS to be good,
when it's not.
Hope they didn't charge you for the secondary one,
cause it never goes bad.
take warps advice.
Buy a PRIMARY TPS, put it on , run the 12 minute tune,
then ride home a happy camper.
end of story.

PRIMARY TPS PRIMARY TPS PRIMARY TPS PRIMARY TPS.

Have them shim it also. Did mine and is fine. Waste time till it is done.

I will have them do the primary tps tomorrow. Is the shim the .01 spacer I read about in another post?

Sorry how would you know. My question is what do you mean by shim?

well the shim goes under the tps just in the area of the mounting screw it insure the tps sits straight in the Trottle body so it does not bind the reostat movement and cause it to prematurley wear. ALso some people who change it ten to overtighten the screw cocking it further.

Just wanna say I followed your tip and used the alloy can. made a pear shaped shim and it worked perfectly... Pear shaped because I need to hold it during assy..:)
