I used Lectramotive to clean inside the switch housing. Lots of yuck came out. Now my blinker switch is gritty. I cleaned it a second time and lubed the blinker switch with dielectric grease but it's still gritty and sticks now.

From memory you have a lot of grit in your area as I seem to recall your throttle linkages being worm out. Man that stuff must be a right pain on the arse.

I am sure most of my issues are due to my own fault for not cleaning the bike well enough. I am thinking I should give it a good tear down and through cleaning. Every where air can get to is filthy it seems. This Lectramotive is good for all electrical parts and seems to cut through most anything. Should take more than a couple of can to do the job...

As for the extra grit; I think it is the same as anywhere, just that I ride some much in the rain which helps to transfer it from the road to the bike. Again, better cleaning well help...

@Boog this is what you need to do!!!
1) move to the suburbs to a house with a garage.
2) put bike in garage.
3) stop riding bike in bad weather.
4) never ride bike when chance of snow or sleet.
5) never ride bike when brine is on the ground or sand for traction.
6) clean and lube bike more than once a year or when it breaks.
7) buy a car so when above happens you can get to work safely.
In summary, protect bike and self from elements!!! If none of this works for you, buy a Goldwing, it will probley hold up better to all the abuse and is the closest thing to a car/motorcycle you can get!!!

@Boog a caution.

You recall I was soured on our local dealer -- and one item was the left hand switch unit was messed up when I got the bike -- I had asked for heated grips to be installed.

Upon close inspection, it was clear the mechanic -- probably in a hurry -- had cross threaded one of the bolts on the clam shell, and in the soft aluminum, had tightened to the point that it no longer held. I wonder about these things - did he think I wouldn't notice ?

I had them give me another one as I didn't trust them to put it on.

So when you get one, if you can, you will want to check the threads.

I lean toward the others of really cleaning yours.

@Jag I do have #7 covered at least. It gets about 500- 600 miles a year on it...
