Just fitted Jardines, quick question

Hi Folks,

Just fitted Jardines to my 2008 R3, bought Tuneboy, went to install the Jardine tune and of course didn't realize that I had to wait for a serial number from Tuneboy in Aus to use it. Supposed to be going on a 150 mile ride tomorrow. I took it round the block and it seems to run fine but there is some popping on decel so it sounds like it's lean.

The question is; will it hurt the bike if I take it on the ride tomorrow and run it lean just for 2 or 300 miles? Or should I cancel and wait for the SN for Tuneboy next week.

Any help is appreciated.

Stock right now, I'm going to do the triples in a week or two, but right now it's stock.

Think it will be ok? It won't be a hard ride either, we have some Harley's with us so we'll just be putting along.

I personally wouldn't do it. But with that being said, I do know of a guy that has run the same set up on a stock Triumph tune for several years with no known problems.

I would at minimum do a 12 minute tune.

I'd be very careful if you choose to ride without the new tune. When I had my R3T on the dyno the first time it was running very lean. That was with only D&D's, a K&N drop in, and Wayne's first try at a tune for the R3T. His tune added quite a bit of fuel and it was still hitting near 16:1 at higher throttle openings.

If you're going to ride, don't whack that throttle open.

Yea, did the 12 min tune before I took it out this afternoon.

I'm thinking that if I were blowing 19PSI of boost in there I wouldn't do it for sure, but as it's stock with stock compression; it will be ok. Can't see me burning a hole in a piston in a couple of hundred miles, but that being said I certainly don't want to do any damage to my new bike with only 2k miles on it, that's for sure.

What do you think is the worst that could happen? Burn out a valve seat? Still not worth the risk for just a ride out. Maybe I'll wait.

welcome to the forum by the way.
you always have the option of changing your exhaust back out to original and making your run AND riding for the next two weeks till your SN comes in, then changing everything out...

The bikes are very lean to start with. Making intake or exhaust changes multiplies the effect. I'll bet if you ride too long without loading the correct tune you'll cook the coating on the Jardine header, especially at the first bend out of the head. Don't ask me how I know.
