I did the plate relocation last weekend and all was fine
but I noticed today that both the rear tail light and plate light
are out.

I'm looking at the wiring diagram now trying to see how these are
related.

The rear tail light bulb physically looks fine.

I did have an issue earlier in the week where the plate bulb wiring
drooped and rubbed on the new tire. The wires had frayed so I cut
and reconnected them and wrapped them in electrical tape and
everything seemed OK.

Q. Do I need to replace the sheathing/insulation?

I also installed new rear blinkers and forgot to put in the new
relay module (just put it in but lihts are still out).

Q2. Could that have caused both the tail light and plate light to fail?

I'm heading to the shop for both bulbs in the morning but need to
know where to look next if that doesn't resolve the issue...

TIA

Oh yeah, the rear blinkers are (and were) working fine and the
#4 fuse is fine.

Check fuses first. Frayed wires will often blow a fuse.

If fuses are ok, double check your wiring repair. You may have reconnected wrong wires. This will be very apparent if you find a blown fuse, replace it, turn bike on to check and fuse blows again.

So yes, plate light and tail/brake lights are related. Should be easy to fix. Just go over fuses and wiring again.

Rechecked fuses again and switched #4 and #10 with alternates - no change.

Disconnected the wiring harness with Yellow/Black wiring from
plate light - rear still not working.

Heading to dealer to get new bulbs and possible (?) assistance...

Thanks.

if it was rubbing on the tire then it might as well have pulled the wires and caused the connectors above the ecu where the rear light harness connects to the main harness, to pull out.

Just a thought.

Electrical work was never my strong suit...

1. Rechecked my splice work - nothing
2. Replaced rear bulb and plate bulb - nothing
3. Rechecked for other broken wires, grounding issues - nothing
4. Hinted to shop techs for help - manager was around so they couldn't help
5. Rechecked fuses - nothing
6. Borrowed multi-meter - both outlets getting power
7. Unwrapped spliced wiring and checked that nothing was shorting - nothing
8. Did notice that tail light was working with brake engaged - good sign but
running lights still out.
9. Replaced all related fuses.
10. Rewrapped spliced cables and put everything back together and voila both
lights are on... WTF :!:
11. Ordered new plate wire harness.

So, there must have been some shielding issue and the third time reqrapping the
wiring was the charm.

This is why I dislike electrical work - err.

Dude, did you solder the splices or at least use splicing connectors? Just knotting wires by hand and taping will often lead to failure over time. Also when you're wrapping the wires you gotta double-check that each splice is separated with enough insulation between to prevent arcing and rub through.

Happy trails or tails!

No, I didn't solder them but will tonight as my temporary fix may be in
place for a few weeks now.

I'm not sure why I thought they might have wiring harnesses in stock
at my local Triumph shop when they don't even stock the crush washer
for the drain plug or any Triumph light bulbs (and in fact can't even determine
what wattage they should be).

Now that I know what it is I can deal with it and will carry the appropriate tools
in case my solder job fails...

Thanks again for the moral support.

FYI, you can find bulbs at most automotive stores. They are standard automotive type. Just take them into the store with ya to compare.

Same deal with crush washers. Auto store should have some in same or similar size.
