HP or TQ witch one??

Anyone do a big bore kit for the rocket, I want more torque and more bhp lol

Seriously though it would be great if there was a ECU map selector on the dash so you could pick if you wanted torque or bhp today...a lot can be done with the mappings, it seems a waste to not use it.

Do power commander do anything where you can choose from one of several maps whilst out on the bike? Would it be too much to ask when tuning a bike to have atleast two tunes, one for uber torque and one for higher revving hp gains. ANyone know what extremes for torque and hp can be cachaived through mapping alone or am I barking up the wrong tree?
TuneBoy can give you three tunings which can be selected at will. You could, for example, have one set up for a race from one set of lights to the next, one for normal riding, and one for wet weather.

Good article....I think a lot of factors come into play when one rides a bike, age, health, positioning, and comfort etc etc.. I love my Roadking for touring 100 mph and comfort and not having to worry if i break down where i can find a qualified dealer. On the other side of the coin it is limited of torque and power. I paid $17,500 for my RK brand new back in 2001 the Screaming Eagle set up was about $5k for what amounted to an extra 10+ horsepower "i don't think so".. I was lucky to get in on the ground floor when Triumph introduced the Rocket III in 2004 i liked every thing about it but had my reservations. I investigated it to the chagrin of a lot of fellow riders who told me the 2004's were having major problems. If i wasn't so facinated with the 2300cc engine i would have probably turned the other cheek. I was reading the want adds one day and found a 2005 with less than 1000 miles 765 to be exact for 14K according to what i had learned had all issues taken care of. I asked the guy why he was selling it he said it scared him to ride it, had too much torque and horsepower..:) I only had so much money i offered him $9k he said no way and I told him if he ever changed his mind to call me . Two months later he called me no one was interested, they'd show up look at it and leave. I paid him off and to be honest i was i little nervous picking her up. I asked a veteran 40+ year bike rider friend to ride it home for me. He took one look at it and chickened out,i was left with no options but to ride it myself. After twenty minutes riding the Rocket i couldn't believe the torque and horsepower it was overwhelming i think i shed a tear of joy. Three years later the Rocket seemed like the RK nice but i wanted more.. I ended up buying a 2008 Busa , now that i'm long in tooth the Rocket suits me just fine.......

Good article!!! After reading it a couple times I aggree to a certain extent especaily when it come to deciding what type of engien you want. Sure down low the R3T had more torque then a standard Rocket has I believe it was advertised at 2150 rpm's. That being said I would speculate once on the interstte you were allready on the down hil slide of the max torque. This must have been the way it was tuned to have a good jump at 50 mph instead of interstate speeds. Of course everyone retunes both bikes to increase the torque which helps at interstate speeds. Everyone including myself love having the ability to just roll the throttle wihtout down shifting to pass on the interstate. This is good but the fact is if some other bike whether sport bike or sport tourer, or even a guy with his Vrod want to come up and screw with you you can garantee he will go down a gear or two before he jumps. With that being said I love having the ability to drop down a couple gears also if for nothing else but to scare the **** out of the busa riders :D

I am not sure about you guys but when I am on the highway most of these kind of bikes that come up and want to screw with my bagger come up in the fast lane on the left do there screwing around and then bolt. These are the guys I love to feed to the Falcon just like letting them have me off the light so they get to hear the blower spool up as I pull along side of them. Its great giving them the nod and then grab a fist full of high rpm horsepower and what ever avaiable torque there is so they can watch me disapear :)

A PC5 gives you the option of two maps of your choice straight out of the box. You simply need an on/off type switch and some wire (or you can buy their nifty switch with a nifty price.). If you run with Autotune - the auto tuned map uses one of these slots. I keep meaning to try - but get sidetracked easily.

imo You need max torque where you generally cruise. In my case 2500-3500rpms in top.

Yes but I beleive they are not set up for timing modifications on the Rocket yet which can result in power changes to to the burn efficiency. Having max torque at 2500 to 3500 is great but it will not win any races in the long run even on the road when playing around. 3500 rpm range is good to 93 mph (in Fifth gear) which will beat a moped :)

Having 2 maps is what I think would work well, one for peak torque low down as barbagris mentioned (think leisurely sunday rides with the wife) and one for torque higher up giving more bhp at higher revs (think chewing and spitting out those young whipper snappers) assuming you could get the big bird around the bends in the UK of course...

I would almost agree with you except for the power addicting factor in which you might find using the lower powered map less frequently. I myself control mine with the wifey on the back by use of the wrist. Or she might just jack slap me a good one :)
Of course my fuel mileage suffers at 70 mph which has been down to 38 mpg but hey if it keeps the wife happy I win anyway :D

I have the muti trim capability but find myself only using one map the rest is wrist control. Although I must admit I have torque everywhere anyway do to my build. I just have a bucket load more then the stock bikes and have exsperienced drive train damage for excessive torque the ast one happening north of 175 mph.
As for twisties I am at best moderatly sufficient but have noticed as long as there is some distance between the curves and boost is positive I can overtake anyone how passes me in the curves. I can even afford to spot them some distance so they can experience the Warp Pressure Wave as I go by :D

Love this bit :) I'm looking forward to the spring when I start going out with the usual gang on thier sports bikes, should be fun catching them up out of the corners...

You're probably right about not wanting to use anything bar the one map with all the goodies available in it....38mpg is **** good even in US measures, so far my average is under 30mpg but the uber grunt (stock still for me) is still a novelty!

I define uber grunt at the ability to transfer so much torque when you dump her at 120 mph it flattens out the motorcycle tire to look like a car tire!!!!! Or atleast thats what the dyno operator here said mine looks like, then I am a cardboard cutout and I disappear!!!!!!
Uber grunt can also be defined as the ability to overload the torque cell on a dyno, burning it up and not being allowed on the dyno anymore :D

THE ROCKET has no need for several driving modes it has 2300cc and has power everywhere and you have a throttle to control the power output
