How to tell if I have the right cable

Anybody know why Tuneecu is free ?

A few guys had a problem with one of the other tune setup systems. They tried to talk to the guy that created it and after a while he would not respond at all. He accused them of trying to steal his design. There was a genuine problem with the software and he wouldn't fix it so Tom and another guy created there own with great difficulty getting the information needed to do it.
They just love to tinker. Its free because they are great people and because they can do that.

That is the story that I heard. I could have been told wrong.

Similar to what I heard and Also I rang probally a dozen times to try and organise a purhase and they never answered the phone left messages they never returned the call so I went TuneECU no dramas, Still might get Tune Boy one day as it has more features when you want start pushing boundaries like Warp but even Std Rockets can be improved by some of the extras on offer from TuneBoy, unfortunitly I don't have spare $500 laying around and I am not ready to take "The Mistress" To the next level yet

Well, I've been fighting my setup all day. Got the cable from the Amazon link. Hooked it up to the bike, and it connected. I started to save the stock map and after a minute or two, got the disconnected message. Nothing since then. Puter won't even recognize the cord when plugged into a usb slot. I can't get my puter to show any com ports, which I think is the problem. winXP

Hi
don't know beans about cable but just a thought maybe the lights need turned off or fuse pulled and perhaps a charger to keep voltage up while trying to communicate.

I use Win XP with Tuneboy and Tuneecu. I hate to ask but have you tried rebooting ? I already know the answer. Have you tried rebooting with the cable unplugged, then plugging it in ? I just fired up my laptop and plugged in my Tuneboy cable, then my Tuneecu cable. I'm showing com1 in the device manager but plugging in the cables doesn't change anything. I'm not connected to the bike though. Mine is very fussy about the connection between the cable and the connector on the bike. Sometimes I have to plug it in, then pull it back apart a little for it to make connection. I would look at that if you had a connection to start with.

I had some trouble with my link but never during upload. The software would not recognize a link. I verified that the cable was being seen by the laptop. I plugged then unplugged cable. Because this is not internal port it should only show up when plugged in. In my line of work I use a lot of different cables and protocols in my programming. Sometimes I use hyper terminal and sometimes it won't connect because it says another program is using that particular com port. This is usually a load of crap because I have no other programs running sometimes a reboot will fix the problem. I have cycle power on the rocket several times in some cases and this will clear the problem.

I have not looked at the protocol for this cable but it appears to be 3 wire RS232 maybe. If I can figure it out with the baud rate maybe I can set up a way to do a loop back test for the cable.

If your laptop does not see the com port go active when plugged in maybe the cable took a dump.

I'm thinking it's the cable. Did the re-flo solder thing, no results. I have been trying on 3 different laptops. Once in awhile when plugging the cable to the usb port, I'll get a message that a device is connected, but may not work. Ordered another cable, but it won't be here till next week. Probably coming straight from china.

OK, it's the cable for sure. I have another ODBll ELM327 cord, and the puters recognize it, and set up a port when it is plugged in. Probably the same thing as these other cords. It does load a FDTI or whatever it is driver too. I'm going to try it on the bike later, with the tuneEcu program.

Cootertwo , where did you order the defective cable from? just so others here do not make the same mistake.

canbles

Cooter, did you load a driver? you did not mention if you did or not.
That may be why your cable is not working?
I have not done it done but give this a try?TuneECU - Links
