Help me understand

Mine is still bone stock after 6 years of ownership. Hot rods make lousy touring bikes, but make for a great second bike. I just don't want to hear the noise on a long trip, and worry about breaking the tire loose in the rain.

I also worry about the rear breaking loose in the wet but it was more of a concern before I took secondaries out. That initial jerk when you turn the throttle is gone and its now much smoother. Yes there is more "liberated" power but it's controllable and the improvement in rideability is what I'm really pleased about (if not what I grin about :D). Similarly, I'll probably look at PCIII next but mainly so I can be confident about things like a/f mix an optimising efficiency. Any extra performance would be a bonus.

I'm not sure I want to go chasing extra horse power just for the sake of it - I agree with you and others, there IS plenty anyway. Total respect for those that do, however. But for me, I don't want to start making more radical changes that might compromise reliability or rideability.

Noise is definitely personal taste too but having a bit more aural presence has saved me more than once. Just the other day I missed a kangaroo because of it - or rather it missed me (in suburban Canberra!). They're like hitting a steel post. Besides, I like the rumble.

While on the subject of noise, what's with the stock horn? It's an embarrassment.

Ugarte,
putting a car tire on will fix that breaking loose problem.

Mexican,
Now Lupe you NEED a GiPro w/ ATRE,
You NEED triple filters,
you just NEED them,
no reason I can tell you about,
but you're welcome to ride my bike and you'll SEE why you NEED them...;)

Already did Skipp, remember?? and either it is way too powerful or im getting old:(

while on the subject the horn is an embarrassment

I agree so I purchased a fiamm dual air horn set up the ferrari one !! I hid the compressor behind the old OEM horn and ran the air hose behind the rad , screwed both horns under the lower plastic bottom of the rad trim they face side way from center and cannot be seen easily do not get in the way debris and water does not get inside but when I hit the button it SCREAM!! I shot and posted some pictures of the rigging on this forum somewhere check it out it sure beat the OEM embarrassment

have

have you never in your whole life wanted to improve something Mex? even something that you already think is good?if you havent.....then you must indeed be 'the exception'

I just added Raask slip ons and did the TORs tune. More than enough for me.
I'm not a speed freak / hot rodder / gear head. It's all good though. This bike is a great platform for those who have that 'need'.

Naw, you ain't getting old Lupe,
I might be getting there though cause I sure did forget.
That's why you got a car tire ain't it ?
I seriously thought it was the wifes red one you rode,
but now that I think about it......
Wow, that seems like ages ago...
You still NEED the GiPro bro..;)

Now that you mention it,, i have a 1970 vw bug that originally had 55hp, with a 1600cc engine and a crappy paint and upgraded it to almost 2500cc with 205hp and also upgrade3d the paint:Dhttp://i769.photobucket.com/albums/xx339/superpajaro/download111.jpg

Also upgraded my 64 to dual alternator:D

Oh that's neat ... I wish my scanner was working. You would love the bug I had in college .... 1850cc jugs w/twin progressive two barrel webbers, cam (of course), all the bling goodies on the pulleys and engine, finished off with a stinger exhaust. Stuffed up in a supper thick Baja kit with brush bars, 32" Gumbo Monster Mudders on 10x15's on the rear, and as low a profile one could get in the 80's on 9x14's on the front. Tires mounted on gold Craiger Centerlines and body painted Candy Rootbeer Brown with black flames .... all lacquer. **** I loved that bug!!

Noisy as hell, tires droned on and on, banged my head on the roll cage often, would barely break 100mph from the gearing, no back seat, Very little heat and a worthless defroster. Oh yeah, of course NO A/C living in Kansas!

It had to go.:(

The scanner started working .......
