2014 R3R,
I currently own two Honda vtx bikes one is 1300 and one is an 1800. I have wanted to get an R3 for a few years now.
I am going to look at an 05 next week. I was hoping to get some input as to any issues or conditions I should look for. The bike has 17000 miles.
thanks in advance for any help

Is that 17000 mile as that is quite low things to look for is see if the update kit has been fitted and also a eastern beaver light relay kit if both these things have been done then if it runs good the gearboxs are a bit clunky( 1st to 2nd) but still positive shifts grab it enjoy and we will be able to welcome you to the ranks of this awesome bikes owner forum.
I'll just get in early and say Welcome from Auss

Go newer above a 2008 and preferably a Roadster - unless you want a pure touring bike.
JMHO.
Welcome aboard from WA.

I agree with Bull, if you can afford a newer model I'd go that route, or confirm the Transmission update kit has been fitted, as Hanso has stated. Either way let us know if you get it and post pics! :)

Oi !!! .... Nothing wrong with an 08 ...... Cheeky Bugger Steve

Lol just kidding around as Steve said 08 onwards pretty well have everything sorted in motor but most models still need the headlight relay kit (Eastern Beaver or make your own) I forgot there is one other little nuisance that most (not all) riders will have to replace at some time and that is a Detent Spring

Go 08 or above!
How's that, Mate?!

What was changed for the 08 model year? Also any hints as to what I can look for to avoid purchasing someone else's headache??

I am going to make the drive (appx 2 hrs) to look at the bike tomorrow. If anyone has any input that would help me I would appreciate it. sds

Hello and welcome to the forum from Virginia. Good luck with the bike and if the price is right, all other mods are worth the work. That second gear was a problem on that year and the ignition box over heats unless it has the Eastern beaver kit installed. Other wise, it may be your next great adventure...
