I'd like to get my bars back (torward me) about an inch. Boogerdave said someone makes a riser that would accomplish this. Anyone got any links to a good place?
I read in another post that putting the Rivco risers makes it a pain in the backside to lift the tank when necessary.
Personally I managed to roll my handlebars (Standard R3 2008) about an inch. Does the job pretty well for me. Just have to be careful not to roll them so far back that they make contact with the tank when turning them to max.
I'm 5' 8" with not a lot of reach. Rolling back an inch made it so I can sit up straight if I want to.
Or when the forks are compressed from a large pot hole or coming down from a wheelie, they will go down far enough to make contact with the tank at the stock setup, rolling them back even more so.
You know... I never considered the front end compressing thing. Makes perfect sense. In fact, now I'm sort of slapping myself on the forehead! Now that I've gotten used to the position though, I wonder if putting them back will cause me any problems.
well iv bottomed the front suspension out and the radiator cleared so as long as your forks don't slip your ok, but as for the bars just make sure you tighten the heck out of them and you'll be ok. on that tighten the top bolt all the way first then bring the bottom one in and it pinches it to make it not slip.
I don't think clearance (after a cursery look) is an issue on my bike (touring model), as the tank is flatter than the R3 or R3C. I thought of rolling them back a hair, but I kind of like the height, just wish they were back about an 1/2" to 1". I'm 5'10" so it's not a big deal, but I do feel a hair stretched in the arms.
Of course, I could try hanging by my arms from the pull-up bar at the gym for an hour or two.
OK, I rolled the bars back a bit as some of you suggested. I think that may do the trick. I'll have to ride it a bit to see. I have about an inch of clearance from the tank and the cables have plenty of slack so no worries there. If this doesn't work, then I'll go with a riser.
