Got my bike!!! :) High idle :(

My bike apparently had this problem the day before I picked it up but had been fixed - not sure how. It did it one more time a week later and not presented again in about 5,000km. I just switched off and restarted and it was fine. I'd try where you bought it first or the dealer. Even if he's dodgy (as you have only heard) he probably has the gear to diagnose and fix this. Failing that, a 12 min tune is very simple - unless you have TORs, an echo chamber garage and sensitive neighbours . If it's not an ongoing problem, just ride it and hope it's gone away, which is my favorite remedy.

It's either the TPS or in my case it was the ignition switch failing. Somehow the initial stages of the ignition switch starting to fail can cause the values the ECM reads to be off and cause all kinds of goofy **** to go wrong. But it's a safe bet that it's one or the other.

Hey fellas,

Cheers for all the responses - all your feedback is awesome.

It's a used bike, 11000 KM on the odo... i have 3 years warranty with the dealer so i may just ring them and tell them wtf? (they are on the other side of Australia with no branches in WA, so I can take it to a approved mechanic either way) But either way i'm going to get a Tuneboy for the performance benefits eventually so I thought if it would fix it i may as well just go for it now.

Can anyone give me a bit more detail where this nut on the stepper motor is? Even a pic or a existing thread - been searching around for it.

Thanks again guys.

hey madlaps, i lived half way between perth & fremantle (applecross) for 2yrs when i was a kid. my dad was capt. of the CENTAUR which did 15day trips between aus & singapore. could see the swan brewery across the river from the jetty where we all used to go swimming. loved it there, keep threatening to come back but theres always something else to spend my cash on(rocket). nearest i've got is google earth but maybe one day.

The idle stepper motor is on the front of the throttle bodies ( the radiator side ).. There's a 10mm nut ( I believe it's 10mm) that adjust a rod that controls idle. I'm at work right now, so can't really get a picture of it, but I will try tonight when I get home..
