Gore-tex Rain Suits

Yessir. In the rainy NW. Was good enough for guys headed to Alaska back in 1897, it's good for me in 2009/2010.

That and if you decide to go hunting, logging, spelunking, brush cutting, etc. you don't need to change your pants.

Motorcycle rain suits are sort of limited to a single application. These can be used in multiple scenarios.

You go running through blackberry bushes in a rain suit and it'll rip to shred and then into your flesh.

Throw on some waxed 2-ply 11 oz cotton duck and you won't feel a thing.

They don't melt but if you get your leg on the pipes, the wax will heat up and smoke a bit. Never had it do any harm to the pants, the pipes or my leg.

North Alabama weather..in the high 20's last night, high today high 40's with sunshine..more sunshine tomorrow..poss high of low to mid 50's.

Past that...rain, everyday.

I got a two piece hunting rain suit at Gander Mountain. It goes over anything and keeps me bone dry even in downpours! But no it doesn't breathe at all! Good luck in your search. :D

Yeah, my Firstgear suit keeps me pretty dry too, but doesn't breathe at all. Thinking it might be worth it to get Gore Tex, though pricy....

We use our Frogg Toggs for everything. Work, play, and riding. Spent 90% of last years Bennington Bash riding in 'em. Work great-and I don't sweat in them to any great degree.

Thanks, my King....of Fleece....sounds like a bunch of guys here dig the Frogg Toggs...always get good tips here...

Fish,

I had the older version of the Frogg Toggs and I liked them alot. The problem with them was that:

(1) they would melt very easy.
(2) the neck of the jacket didn't fit snug so you'd get rain down the neck
(3) after about a year of FLA rains, they ****** wore down and they developed a leak in the ******. Very embarassing at work....

I've seen new versions that have a heat shield incorporated into the right pants leg to stop that from happening.

I don't believe that they have fixed the broad neck issue, although if you have a full face helmet, it's not that big a deal.

I don't believe that they have fixed the ****** leak problem either, but at $60 per set, you can buy a new set of raingear when needed.

If you don't fight rainy days too often, they will last quite a while. If you have a lot of rainy days, you may need to buy a new set each year.

I hear ya. I often don't bother riding when it's pouring rain, but on long trips it's unavoidable. I once rode from DC to TN in an absolute terrential downpour the ENTIRE time, had a few nice days riding out there, then rode back in a complete monsoon all the way. I know the difference good rain gear can make! I had my own little pond in my ******. And running down the neck, yeah too familiar. My First Gear suit is pretty good, but gets so hot in the summer, so clammy I'm dying, and I'm reluctant to put it on...as you know, you wait a minute too long and it's too late. I've never actually worn a Gore-tex suit (that I can remember)....I hear they breathe great but I don't know that for a fact. If I don't see a reasonably priced Gore-tex I might go w/ one of the other options here.
