Gi Pro Power and Ground Connection

Finally got the Gi Pro in and decided to celebrate my birthday by doing the install!

Have it all set up except for the black wire to the ground and the red wire to the power. Here is the issue:

I want to avoid connecting the Gi Pro to the battery b/c I often take the battery off to put it on the battery tender. I connected the Gi Pro ground to the negative terminal and screwed it tight and unscrewed it a few times today and noticed it is shedding all of the copper wire. Pretty soon - there isn't going to be any copper wire left! The other option appears to be connecting it to the chassis ground. Has anyone gone this route and can they tell me where it is and how to connect it to chassis ground?

Next question: I would also prefer to connect the Gipro red wire to the fuse box using the red wire tap connector rather than connecting it to the battery. How do you use this connector and how do you install it? Has anyone done this rather than hooking it up to the battery? Thanks as always - very excited about getting it up and running!(also took off the bear claw and raised the fuel tank for the 1st time - super stoked!!!)
 
I connected mine to the chassis. no problem.
The red connector that GiPro gives you is junk. Their is no protection against corrosion with this connector. I would reccomend adding a small fuse block and wiring it direct to that. It is easy to do, and also gives you a little space if you ever add any power goodies!
 
Thanks Benelli. Would you mind telling me what would be considered a good chassis ground? As well, how does one go about setting up another fuse box and what type of connector is required to attach the red wire to a new fuse box? Sorry, my electrical skills are fairly lacking. Thanks!
 
My main concern really is that screwing and unscrewing the negative terminal a few times has already led to the shredding of a number of strands of the black Gi Pro wire. Should I just learn how to crimp a ring connector to the black and red Gi Pro wires and then connect to the battery via the ring connectors? Advice on what others have done and how to do it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
 
If you don't already have a wire lug and crimp set then you should invest the few bucks and get one. They aren't expensive for a cheap all inclusive set available at any parts store or Mega Mart.
 
Thanks Hellfire - will pick a set up from Home Despot today. Did you just connect a couple of ring connectors to the black and red wires and go straight to the battery?

As well, in terms of the wire from the Gi Pro itself - I just removed the bear claw and plopped it on top of coolant reservoir and then down to the wire harness. Sound fine? Thanks again!
 
In your fuse box you have a spare 30 amp fuse as stated in your owners manual I just soldered in a splice and added the additional fuse box to that open cell. You can also use a spade and connect it right to the top of your existing fuse box. You will just need to remove that extra fuse and crimp or solder on a small spade connector and put it in the fuse terminal As for the chassis ground. I put on a horseshoe terminal connector and attached it to a free bolt on the rear fender. It is really nothing special and is super easy to do. All of these parts you can get an any hardware store, or radio shack.( If you got then up in the canuk land! ???) Good luck!

I crimped a ring end on the negative and went to the battery. the posative my friend with a little electrical knowhow solderd to the 30amp of my existing fuse box the spare i think and works great.:D im also limited in this area .
the little ring ends i got from the local autoshop/hardware store
 
I just want to thank everyone for their invaluable help. Gi Pro installed and works like a charm! I documented the entire process for future newbies such as myself. I tried to upload to this site but received a message that the post was too big. I also posted it to the .com site. Feel free to check it out if anyone is interested. You might want to consider a PC8 fuse block from eastern beaver. They sell the relay kit as well. although if there is a spare in the main block than you really dont need the kit and can attach from there!
