Can someone post the in-line installation steps again for the
gear sensor override w/out going through a switch (got that one).

Do I simply put the resistor between the black and black/purple
or on the black/purple one and connect it to the frame?

TIA

Hi .I actually thought it was a black /pink wire (from memory) but it may well change to black purple after the plug.It is certainly not the black white (neutral switch),so it will be the black purple (which feeds back to the ecu) you need to connect this to a good earth(battery neg is preferrable) via the chosen resistor 680 or 1.2 kohms (again from memory)...sorry mate it`s been a while.Pay to check Robs posting on the sensor issue.

It is the black purple, which on my bike is like the 'not black white' since it doesn't become black purple for a short ways under the tape. You have to cut the wire, and connect the end from the computer to ground via a .7K (or 700 Ohm) resistor. 680 ohms is close enough. I just ran it down to the gear sensor housing and undid the lower bolt, put a connector on the wire and put the bolt back in.

cut black purple wire ,
conect resistor to the end that goes to computor
other end of resistor goes to earth

you should be left with a black/purple wire that goes to the gear box , just tape it over ,

I have the swich, i find it easier in the rain on slipy roads to use std option

Tanks for the quick replies as always!

I had purchased the wrong swich (2 screws) and wanted to splice in
the resistor temporarily for an early morning veterans ride Sunday.

Its probably a good thing I didn't put it in as it was stop-and-go 10-40MPH
for an hour - yuck (good cause though).

Sadly, a US$55,000 custom Boss Hoss had some kind of mechanical
failure when we were parking at the rally. It went full throttle in the parking lot, took out a bystander, hit a parked SUV, and drove the SUV into another parked car. The 502HP V8 Hoss probably weigh 1/2 ton
and from the look of the burnout he traveled only 12 yards but that was
enough to do serious damage to the bike and 2 vehicles. I think both
the bystander and rider went to the hospital but are OK now.

I've seen the guy around town at car and bike shows and never saw him
do anything other than rev the engine to let the V8 roar, so I don't think
he was intentionaly trying to "squawk" the tire and had it get away from
him.

I guess the lesson is that with these powerful and heavy bikes of ours we
really need to be on guard at all times and be ready for anything.

so is the resistor a standard radio shack item ? Is there a part number or specific one to buy?

I'm more of a sledghammer guy than a soldering iron guy

although I have installed a car stereo or two in my day

680 ohm resistor, like 3mm diamiter, 6mm long, the kind you find in the back of a radio ciurcit board. I put a couple of layers of heat shrink over it to protect it , Ive changed my exausts, now ive noticed small backfireing / popping whilst slowing down , which arn't there when I flick the switch back to std

OK, I'm all set.

I installed the switch & resister.

I ran the resister to the negative terminal on the battery.

I put a spare resister in my glove box (old air filter box) along with an
extra wire that allows me to bypass the switch in an emergency.

With my mods I didn't notice a huge difference, but maybe it was a bit
snappier...
