My bike's got a little over 1k miles on it and I've noticed some seepage around the front engine seal. Not enough to drip but definitely leaking. Is this normal for the Rocket?

I've searched the forum but the search function is just short of useless.

When I took it in for the first service last week the dealer told me it looked more like more like road crap blowing back from the tire to him. It was kinda questionable but now I see it on the top of the seal so it's about to go back to him. Before I make him tear it apart I just wanted to know if this is something I should be aware of.

back to the shop, get them to have a good peep , perhaps just a weeping gasket but better safe than sorry , my clutch went at 500 kms and i wasnt hooning about like a twat , warranty covered it , had a bad taste in my mouth for a short while but it soon went away once i was back in the seat

My vote is it's abnormal

I'd be concerned too. Oil leaks, no matter how small are abnormal, and you're well within your rights to expect the dealer to correct the problem. I've pretty much accepted the fact that the Rocket isn't a perfect bike, but I still think it's the best bike on the road when it's purring pretty. From the postings on this site you can tell there are some common problems experienced by several, some not so common experienced by a few. You's may be in the "few" group. But dammit, a problem's a problem. Keep raising hell till they fix it.

Wipe it off, ride it and see if it reappears. The dealer warned me about dripping cosmoline (I think that is what they spray on the bike for transport). The dealer said they do the best they can to get it off but it seems to come out of nowhere when ridden for a bit. I thought I had oil leaks but it turned out to be the protectant weeping out of the little knooks and crannies. I recall the front of the engine looked the worse. I good cleaning with motorcycle engine degreaser took care of it and it didn't come back.

Clean it, ride it, check it. Smell it if it's fresh, usually comoline has a distinctive smell. Get in the nooks and really check-you don't wan't them to take down the bike for nothing-trust me-it may be weeks or more before it get fixed...

Also, clean it in front of the SM, let the engine run for a bit, and show him if possible.

If you're talking about it leaking from the plug (engine inspection cover) just above the oil filter I had that problem also. It was a poorly installed "O" ring part # 5576914-001. About an $8.00 part ...should be covered under warantee once you show them that it was damaged during factory install.
While your down there...check all your fasteners on your radiator cover some of mine were loose and others were missing.
