2023 Triumph R3 GT, 2022 Moto Guzzi V85TT,
I purchased my 06 R3 , in Nov of 2010. First bug I ran into was problem starting in anything lower than the mid 40's deg. I checked the forum for a fix , and all I found was to get a battery with more CCA. Theses were designed in England where it gets a lot colder than here in Oklahoma.
After looking at the wiring diagram , and a old problem with the BMW airheads , I decided to try another route. The starting point was the battery connections, then the main grounds. I worked my way down to the starter connection , and found that it was gummed , and had some corrosion. I cleaned it up ,and put a couple of coats of liquid tape over it . results no more problems. We just came back from a trip , and the bike had been set up for over two months. I went to the shop in the mid 30 degree range. The red beast started right up.
I am not trying to brag but just pay a little back for the info on other things I have gotten off the forum.

My starting problems were solved by replacing my tired OEM battery with a new one and keeping it on a Battery Tender Jr. whenever she's in the barn. So far, during this, albeit, very mild winter, the beast has fired right up with no hesitation at all.

Good info, that about following the battery connections downward to isolate other potential problems. Remember folks, a good dollop of dielectric grease in the right locale can be your friend, too.

These Rockets of ours need thicker battery cables. They get hot way too quick cranking over; especially in cold weather. Too much resistance in these small diameter cables, for such a big job required of them to do... turning over the sleeping mammoth engine during cold weather.
