engine light stays on

Okay, I disconnected the battery for over an hour and tried the key on key off 7 times and the light was still on. 5 hours later I went for a ride and the light was off but came back on a few minutes into the ride. I went to Autozone and put on the OBDII and read the codes: P1552, P0560, and P0705. The only thing they could use to interpret the codes was relating it to car codes: one was a short circuit condition, another was a gear position sensor (that is a known problem, neutral indicator does not work), and the last one was a computer problem.
Anyone know what they mean for a RocketIII?
After disconnecting the OBDII and starting the bike the light was off now on the ride home.
Going to work now and will see what it does this morning.
Bob

Let me get my lazy arse out of the whirl pool (I use it to jumpsart me weary bones) and I will look up the codes for you out of the manual and reort back.

DTC CODE= DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE
P1552 COOLING FAN SHORT CIRCUIT NUMBER OF NO FAULT CYCLES TO BEFORE TURNING OFF MIL INDICATOR 3 , NUMBER OF NO-FAULT CYCLES BEFORE DTC IS ERASED 40

P0560 STSTEM VOLTAGE- BATTERY CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION NUMBER OF NO FAULT CYCLES TO BEFORE TURNING OFF MIL INDICATOR 3 , NUMBER OF NO-FAULT CYCLES BEFORE DTC IS ERASED 40

P0705 GEAR POSISTION SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION NUMBER OF NO FAULT CYCLES TO BEFORE TURNING OFF MIL INDICATOR 0 , NUMBER OF NO-FAULT CYCLES BEFORE DTC IS ERASED 40

SOME TIMES YOU NEED TO CLEAN THE GEAR SENSOR IT IS EASY TO DO BUT DO NOT LOOSE THE CONTACT PIN THAT RIDES ON THE SPRING. I USED A SCOTCH BRIGHT PAD ON THE CONTACT POINTS ON MINE.

see the contact points below

inside the hole you can see the pin I am refering to it makes the contact and is short and on a spring make sure you do not lose it and cleaing the end of it could help also.

trace the wires from the gear positioner up to th eplug behind the engine it might need to be cleaned and then pluged back in. especilly if you have been doing some wire pulling on the negative battery cable. it might have upset something.

AS FOR THE FAN, I WOULD TRACE THE WIRE COMING FROM THE FAN TO UNDER THE RIGHT SIDE FRONT NECK COVER TO SEE IF ANYTHING HAS RUBBED THRU AND SHORTED OUT.
You just might have to have the software aids to clear all codes and reset adaptive’s in the ecu

hope this helps now to get to work on mine.

Most of us look at those pics ( Warp) & go" AAgh! Scott is doing scary things in places we don't even know exist, never mind how to do them ourselves!!!":surrender::whistle:

Warp's nearest Triumph Dealer is over 200 miles away so he has to learn to fend for himself :)

Plus I gain knowledge from these sites I just follow them out a little more. two bad I am not the best with wireing and the diagrams or I would be a lot better off

Ha! As a kid when I first got into bikes, if some thing broke or died I HAD to fix it myself cos I had no money to take it into a shop. Of coarse not knowing what I was doing only made the problem worse, therefore it was gunna be MORE expensive to take into the shop, so I HAD to perservere if I ever wanted to ride again . So my bike ran like a bucket of crap till I finally sorted it.

It was a hard way, but a good way of learning, like Bones has said Scott knows stuff most of don't even know exists. Well thats how I learnt about building Engines myself and sure have learnt one or two things along the way. 40 years on, I'm into a new learning curve, ROCKETS
My only Qualification is a Q.B.E. (Qualified by Experiance) :-D
I do have a few certificates tho' ....... Birth certificate, two marriage certificates, two divorce certificates, a few C.A.D coarse ones, a couple from jumping outa perfectly good Areo planes at really wonderfull hights, a heap of certifictes from LEO ........

Him sounds like me except for the jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft :) Oh and I believe your variety of motorcycle experience is greater them mine. I only know Rockets :)
