Empty Hole on the front right side of engine

Everyone knows that!!!!  , but why do they leave it there and put a bung in it? Ahhhh Got ya! Explain that Mr Engine Construction expert!

You guys talking about the big hole sitting horizontally on a flange in the front right of the engine case? Mine is clear and open. It obviously has no function other than for manufacturing or possibly for some kind of jack, support or accessory mounting, so why worry about it? I don't even remember if my hole ever had a plug after having so many bloody things rattle off my bike! Worry not - Ride, people, RIDE!

After assembly it serves no real purpose.

The plug is actually chrome plated plastic and most of them
are sitting alonside the highways of the world.

The chrome peeled off mine and the dealer ordered
a new one and installed it under warranty.

There is also a cheap chrome plated plastic nut cover on the
back of the engine as you look at the bike from the right side.

Mine was cracked and should have fallen off. They replaced that as
well under warranty.

50 or 100 years from now having these little doodads might make
some collector happy I suppose...

hole

ole dagored got it right. if you'll look closely there are other mystery holes. one on rear on intake side. one on each side at very bottom where motor mounts to frame at rear. sort of a "jig" hole --makes sure #100 lines up just like #1 did.--john
