Do you really need the 10K service?

I'm undecided at this point if I'm going to take in my Rocket for the 10K service. I reviewed the maintenance schedule, and other than checking the valves, the only other major event is the oil change. I can do that myself.

I'm a betting man; at least in this scenario. My bike runs like a bat out of hell.

From all that I have been following on other boards; very, very few have required a valve adjustment at 10K.

When is the last time you heard of a Rocket 3 blowing up before 20K; due to mis-adjusted valves......?

These Rockets are pretty much bulletproof (besides some electronics). What are your thoughts?

My dealer told me he would not check the valve clearance 'til 40K...he's only had one Rocket ever need a shim, and that was over 40K. I had mine in for the 40K service, actually 41K, and all valves were within tolerance.

Will - mine will get done. May also get it's 20K done if it's hit inside 2 years.

2 reasons.

1) Triumph Warranty.
2) Dealer "Warranty".

Thereafter - it will get fettled at home.

Even out of warranty Triumph have coughed up for the upgrade, so long as you're the original owner (in the UK) and the service schedule has been adhered to.

Up to you mate.

Mine is on 14k miles with nothing but an oil change, and the obvious safety maintenance checks.

Sometimes the 'if it aint broke don't fix it' principle comes in, but as ever, if the **** thing breaks down you will wish you had the 10k service :)

Frankly, I think it's as much to do with Triumph wanting to make a profit. Not forgetting, for future resale a fully stamped service book could get you a better price.
