Good Morning All.. I have been considering cutting my cat box in half with my trusty band saw, and removing the contents. Welding it back together would be easy, and much cheaper than the $350 price tag on a bypass box. Would anyone have a picture of the inside of one of these and maybe know just what needs to come out. I may be barking up the wrong tree but it would be kind of interesting what is in there anyway. I may not be able to make it tune either ??? It is a 07 classic stock cat box.. Any comments.. JIMMY :)

no clue Jim, I haven't went the exaust mod route yet. Curious as to the insides myself. Good luck, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of info in the next few days. Lots of the guys have done catbox removal, and swapped out pipes so lets see if somebody will butcher that "boat anchor" and post pics. how bout it guys. xhdskip

Flip, it is my understandingthat the cat box is empty up to a spefic year. I read this on one of the sites, do you know anything about this?:eek:

Up to 06' had some empty boxes but not all did. There may be a couple laying around if you put a feeler out you may be able to come across one. The full box is a heat monster so I got an empty one and put it on. The cheap cat bypass eliminator:eek:.

Baggage answered that. Actually, some boxes were empty into '07. After that, they were all full. My Brother-in-Law's is empty on his '06. Mine is full on my '07. The cat boxes are marked as to the contents. If I remember correctly, empty boxes are marked with stamped "N" and filled boxes are marked with a stamped "C".

The C boxes are hot boxes for sure but I'm doing my part to keep America green......ha.:D

Thanks Flip for the info on the markings, now I'll have to go lay on the garage floor and see if I can ID which box I have.

My R-3 is a 05 and has an empty box, I have tried the TOR's with the cat box bypass and it was much louder than the same pipes with the empty box. I now run mad dog pipes with the empty box on, as the same pipes with the cat box bypass was just to loud for my tastes. It seems the empty box still diverts the exhaust flow internally and thus reduces the sound dramatically. If you are into really loud pipes you will probably want to buy the bypass pipe, I agree that is too much money for what you get!!
