A week ago the rod that actuates my clutch broke. The dealer is fixing it and told me that Triumph says they have only heard of one other rod breaking like this. Anyone out there ever hear of this happening?
It's usually a direct cause of the pre-load not being adjusted correctly, which could be you or the dealer. You have to maintain proper freeplay or the actuation mechanism eats itself.
There have been a few instances of this happening. Typical Triumph BS when asked if this is common. Triumph also said mine was the only bike to have output shaft failure and only bike to have paint can rattle too. I guess they think we are too busy riding to ever get on the internet and check things?
I just replaced my second one do to over pull while is Lock condition. Proper freeplay adjustment is critical 1mm to 2mm at the lever and I would hang toward the 2 mm side if I was you. Stokers usaully break theirs do to improper adjustment look at you shaft and see if there is any burn marks on it. if so this is a burn cause by no freeplay cause the lifter piece to do a burn out in the lifter shaft as premature wear contues adjustment is made to ovecome lack of material until a over rotation followed by a snap.
You can limp the bike home by placing it in gear pull in the sloppy clutch handle and stratle the bike hit the starter walk with it and off you go shift with out the clutch up and down.
notice the burnt area on the shaft on the right.
Broken lifter shaft
To this date Triumph has not changed this part just the lifter piece and pressure plate/lifter piece bearing.
Richard from TTS is working on a stronger lifter shaft

I thought my being the only one sounded strange but that is what I was told. The pictures above are just what happened. I missed the best weekend for a ride in a month or so. Had to drive 130 miles one way to drop off the bike then back up to get it. I am going to leave the cable adjustments alone from now on unless it gets really sloppy.
