I am sure most of you are already aware of how important it is to check your mirrors when coming to a quick stop.
Keep it in gear too in case you need to get out of the way.

When I was 15 I got hit by a car doing 68 mph upon impact as calculated by the CHP (CHiPs, California). My bike, a Suzuki RM 125 literally exploded. I kept my helmet from that wreck for many years as a reminder of why I shouldn't be alive.

I was on a small group ride about 5 years ago and witnessed the guy in front of me lose control in the twisties on a BMW RT 1100. Most of the considerable amount of plastic on his bike literally shattered. I was shaken for a good week or two after that!
