So how do you get to the bottom bolt on the thermostat housing without pulling the throttle bodies?

The bottom bolt is not obstructed by the throttle bodies on my bike, it is behind the rubber oil pipe near the oil tank. You could use a uni joint socket attachment to get it.

Tried that. Not enough space to get anything on it much less turn it.
