Check coolant level

Is there an easy way to check the coolant level. Dealer showed me how they check coolant level by shining light close to the bottle about mid way up......no go, tank is gray in color and doesn't seem to show any contrast line for max and min. Is there an easy way to check? Dealer checked again and said it was OK. I checked it later when I got home with a thin straw and my thumb closing off the end and found the over flow tank to be bone dry EMPTY!!!!!!!!!! If i can't find a way to easily check coolant level without taking off the bear claw I'm going to modify with sight glass kit I'm making since it's not under pressure.

I do it the same way the dealer told you. The only difference is I put on my reading glasses to magnify the bottle and then I shine the flashlight and I lightly shake the bike causing the coolant to slightly rise and dip. It is difficult to see in a well lit garage.

I unscrew the cap from the canteen and look down in there with my flashlight.
it's hard to see in as it's located under the seat in the airbox.
I am interested in this sight glass idea you're working on tho.

Some coolant are blueish some are greenish . For me it's easier to see , with the dealer procedure , with
greenish ones but if you want to be sure , do as me and remove the bearclaw , that is only 2 bolts to unscrew !

On a sunny day aim your bike towards the sun and you will see the level.

Sounds to me like we need a sight gauge.
Something we could mount on the bars or frame
where a quick glance would reassure you all is well.
Anybody done this yet ?

If you are using the stock tank you could drill it top and bottom then use some right angle fittings with rubber grommets and clear tube.
