I couldn't remember what TORS meant. I Googled and got this: "Triumph TORs (Triumph Off-Road) mufflers are factory accessory exhaust pipes designed for classic Triumph twin motorcycles like the Bonneville, Thruxton, and Scrambler. They look nearly identical to stock pipes but feature a freer-flowing internal design for a deeper, more throaty sound and minor performance gains." I don't get why Triumph calls them, "off road".
 
They had to brand them that way to meet noise police government standards. They measure the exhaust note volume and it has to meet a government mandated limit or it's unacceptable for street use. With a louder exhaust that's not 'street legal' they have to market it as "off-road" use only. How you choose to use it 'off-road' is up to you, and the local constabulary.
 


And- They don't have the catalytic converters in them and larger exit pipe, so more air can pass with less resistance. More HP!
No one that I know of has had any trouble with the law, either. I mean a Harley makes much more noise than the TORS.
 
They are illegal for street use in many areas due to emissions standards. The real TORs have a sticker advising of For Off Road (track) use only

Just now I got curious about how my "silencers" are labeled. I forgot to have my phone with me for a picture but laying down on the garage floor I could see with my reading glasses a bunch of verbiage including, "Meets USEPA Emission Standards". I was hoping they might be TORS but no bueno.
