Bit of advice not sure where to post this , I’m refitting the cam chain and the chain is within limits I marked the crank web when I removed it and it’s not quite where the marks are . I’ve set the cam pulleys and I set the crank web marks ,but when I turn it over it goes back to the marks are I made , I have never had this engine running but am assured it was good, I’ve checked the bores and no signs of piston valve strike. So is this normal.

Unfortunately no. The cams are in the right place but the crank is gone too far. The dots on the main gear on the crank need to line up with the lines on the crankcase, same time as the cams are in the position they're in in the photo.

You'll need to ensure the chain is taught from the cam sprockets to the crank sprocket on the right hand side as you view it in the photo.
And then take up the slack with the camchain tensioner.
Turn it over by hand a couple times and verify everything still lines up the tensioner ratchet will click a few times as it pushes out and takes up the remaining slack as you turn)

I notice you have an old supercharger pulley mount spigot. Does that mean you have different cams/timing?

A walk through the whole process, hope it helps;

Stock cams as it’s a replacement stock engine,I’ll go through it again

Ok so it was 1 tooth out because I couldn’t hold the chain on and 2 spanner’s at the same time .so used a quick clamp on bottom sprocket and that is as close as it gets, I hope
