Broken heated grip again

I'm kind of cheesed off that I now have to worry about having a non-functional throttle after shelling out several hundred for these heated grips. Would it really have been that hard to make the attachment point for the cables out of metal?

Yet one more instance where the incessant quest for maximum profit creates a sub-standard product. Blah.

Just keep u some then wire and a pair of plairs and u can be running again in bout 15 min till u can get somewhere to do the major work my throttle grip usually last bout 9-10 months before it brakes and everyone of them has broke in the same spot

Good advice. Yeah I have to think about how to avoid getting stuck on the road if the cable comes out now.

It's just infuriating that Triumph is being so cheap. This is one thing, the obvious way they built a fully fleshed out R3T - and then removed engine bars, fog lights, sissy bar, luggage rack, lockable fuel cap etc and converted them into expensive options is annoying as hell too.

I love my R3T but there's some guy over at Triumph HQ I'd like to kick in the nads just once or twice just to adjust his attitude a little. I don't know who, but whoever it was that let the bean counters cause them to manufacture substandard crap like this for their flagship bike.

Yup, that's exactly where mine broke. I wish I'd looked further when it happened as I thought the cable has snapped. I've heard it speculated that the plastic can't withstand the heat cycling of the heated grips.

I wonder if the grips for the classic or the standard would work on the r3t as I have heard of no problems with them

Going through this with my dealer right now. I just can't stand when they've "never" heard of such a thing. I'm always the very first one to ever have an issue with my R3T (then I show up with printed copies of these threads and they all of a sudden "remember").

The dealer called me back and said they'd run my VIN and there were no outstanding issues and that mine was a singled-out issue. I told him that actually, broken tabs on the throttle sleeve were a common issue on the R3Ts.

Hmmm, he said, never heard of that...

I've fixed it roadside three times now...twice this past Saturday. No good.:(

I'd like to see a real fix, like a metal part.

I may try to have Barnett or someone give it a try, or I'll do some "garage fabricating."

Maybe an entire new set of aftermarket grips? I have Kury's on now.

Any other ideas?

I have had heated grips on my 2005 R3 and my 2010 R3T and after about 50K miles I haven't had any problems but after this post I took out the original grip and put it in the saddle bags. I figure it could save me a lot of trouble if this would happen.
Trapper

yep that saves a lot of problems
i keep wire and a extra grip in my saddle bag but as long as they keep replacing it under warranty i will keep getting it
