hi guys,

i picked up my R3 from the dealer yesterday and rode her home on freeways and highways, about 135miles, no problems

but once i got into city traffic, she would stall out when downshifting into 2nd and downshifting into 1st (a BIG problem) and also while sitting at a light, ANYTIME you let let your hand completely off the throttle

YIKES! MAJOR traffic safety hazard!!!

what i found i have to do is hold it at 1000 for a little bit and then SLOWLY ease off the throttle to where she'll hang out around 900.

is there anything i can do or is this a trip back to the dealer, maybe the "mapping" is off, idk

help please!

Todd

oh yea, i also tried slowly let it set into idling (backed off really slow so she wouldn't stall) in the garage for 1/2hour or more, thinking this might help her computer figure out what idle is. it didn't work, all it did was get the coolant indicator turn red, and that probably wasn't good on the engine either?

Welcome to the forum and sorry you've had such a bad start to what should be a wonderful experience. It's easy to fix shame if you have to go back 135 miles to sort.

Make sure your coolants ok before riding again.

Sounds like they may not have bleed the air out of the cooling system after they filled it?
Rockets for the most part do not overheat.

I'd say most likely not. Ok the engine is "tight" when new but it didn't seize so a one off shouldn't be an issue.

1st of all, THANK YOU guys so much for your insight full and willingness to help a newbie!!!

jag, i'm not sure how long the "idiot light" was on?

i just let her run for 1/2hr or maybe more w/o thinking to check on it. it could have been on for a while?

she did start up this morning. i will go look at her coolant level...

would you add just water, or coolant? if coolant, is there a specific R3 coolant that would be better than just the good old ordinary stuff?
