Might be the case. Does your joystick work properly for all other control functions (up/down/left/right/press) otherwise? It’s not like it’s acting like it’s always pressed for example?

works fine for everything else. Just won't do volume.

Or we may not be all on the same firmware. If there was an update, there's no way of knowing if we have it that I know of besides asking the dealer.

Yeah, gonna ask them about firmware next time I'm in.
