Avon high speed blow out

Guys I had an Avon Cobra rear tyre fitted two weeks ago and have been very impressed with the handling of the bike. On Sunday I was returning home from a weekend away with my partner Linda on the back and a small w/end bag on the rack. At above 70mph I had a blow out on the rear tyre. Luckily I managed to get the bike stopped in a controlled manner. The shredded tyre caught the wiring loom under the rear fender and ripped it off the bike.
I'm waiting for the dealer to pick the bike up and I suspect they and Avon will want a look at the tyre. I'm hoping to get a refund and my bike fixed.

Interesting.........could you tell if you ran something over or did it just blow out?

You now join a very select band of R3 riders who have successfully controlled a high speed rear blow out. The only other one that springs to mind is Leigh.
 
Good job on bringing her to a stop safely.

It will be interesting to find out what may have caused the blow out. From the pic it doesn't look like the center is worn too much.

Did you hit a pot hole or something else in the road?
 
Marvelous job controlling the bike with a blowout and a passenger on the back! Glad everything worked out the way it did!

90mph on a valk southbound on the M6 in traffic.

I suspect much like me Doug, you will be investing in new underpants - I know mine were unrecoverable after that.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I'm assuming that was you in the pic standing next to your bike before it was loaded?

I don't know the size of your partner Linda or the weight of the bag you had on the back but if that was you, you're not exactly a small boy.

The load index of the Avon Cobra AV72 is 84 (1,102 pounds, 500kg).

Max load on the R3, according to Triumph, is about half that (517 pounds, 235kg).

Not saying this was the cause, but depending on the combined weight, it may have been a factor that Triumph or Avon will use to not honor paying to repair.
