As my gear was all damaged in the crash, I currently have none, but what I replace it with WILL have some way to connect the pants and the jacket. Lower back roadrash is not fun.

So I'm bummed. I ordered the suit, and it arrived today. For the second time in four months, I have received a FirstGear garment with a bad zipper.

In this case, the lower slider on the left pant leg has an internal problem that causes it to jam.

I've requested a return.

I just had to return a pair of First Gear overpants for a zipper problem -- in that case, the left leg zipper was installed upside down, so there were no stops on the bottom, and the slider just pulled right off, and it's nigh on impossible to match the teeth back up by hand.

Darn but that's some rotten luck. On the flip side I've never had a problem with First Gear jackets and how strange that you have had multiple issues. Now I recall that I had a pair of pants leak years ago. I took them to the local motorcycle shop, she called First Gear and she handed me a new pair off the rack. I told her I hadn't bought them there and that they were about three years old and and the apparel lady said it didn't matter that FG would still warrant it.

A failure is one thing but having them arrive defective is another. That's a quality control issue. I'd contact First Gear and let them know.

Another option is bib'n'braces. For distance I prefer them to a zipped set.

I'll never wear a one piece. I tried once, but my long torso and short legs no workie.
This bib is a possibility except I do not like the open wide leg ends and they look real hot.
I shall likely just stick with a good set of rain britches.
Know of any good quality rain pants with zippers up the legs to above the knees or more?

I had a 1-pce Belstaff over suit once. I would take some convincing to go back to a 1-pce unless it was made to measure.

Advantage of zipped sets is that you can often get mix and match pants/jackets. Not all bib'n'braces have "fit over adventure boots" legs. My current leather set are very much inside boot legs.

Hot? - now that's all relative. I had a set before the current ones - I used them in the UK and down into the Austrian Alps in summer with no issues. They were also leather and only very lightly lined. The newer set are aimed at German conditions and are too warm in the lower back for summer here. But then pretty much anything is too warm in summer here.

My absolute emergency waterproof over trousers are from the world of mountaineering. 3-layer GoreTex. Long zippers to go over high altitude boots. I recently rediscovered them in an old rucksack. Down side is they are a bit skiddy as there is no grippy stuff on the bum. Made by Sprayway in the UK - who surprisingly are still active - mine are the forerunner of these Mountain Rainpant
