Are the Gauges Supposed to Sweep?

Since I received the '08 R3T, the gauges have not swept when I turn on the ignition. The Owner's Manual says they should. When I inform the dealer service manager, he first suggested that something may be wrong and that I should bring it in for a quick check on the computer (indicating he thought it should sweep, as well. When I stopped by a week later, he said the gauges weren't supposed to sweep even though the manual stated they should. He didn't know why the manual would say the gauges should sweep.

I realize that being confused by a piece of English technology encumbered by electricity is the norm. Too many years scratching my head over British Leyland and its predecessors taught me that. But BL is dead and that kind of suffering is now limited to those of us nut jobs who enjoy the 12-volt masochism doled out by the Jags, Triumphs, Austins, and MGs on the side of the road with their hoods proudly waving to all who pass by and shouting "Hey, look at me. My driver was stupid enough to buy an English car".

Anyone have an idea who is right - the manual or my confused shop manager?

I wonder if the Rocket laughs at me when I'm not looking.

Yes they are suposed to sweep I heard of people having this problem and they pulled the battery cables off for 10 minutes and then hooked it back up and all was well.

Thanks, Warp. I'll try it when I get Ol' Blue back from the upholstery guy. One more "cheek check" tomorrow and I should be good to bring her back from downriver.

By the way, the new intercooler looks like jewelry.

I have an 08 R3T and no, the gauges do not sweep.

Edited to add: Make that the gauge does not sweep. Perhaps its a tach thing, and since we don't have one.....

I was under the impression that the fuel gauge needle also swept. Again, I have no reference since I have never seen them move. Period.

OK. We now have one for "they do sweep" and one for "no they don't." I'll go with GPM since he has the same model steed. His answer also matches the revised answer from my formerly confused mechanic.

That leaves only one question - where else does the owner's manual differ from reality? Has anyone succinctly listed these deviations?

Gorge I forgot the R3T thing so I would not listen to me. The normal Rockets sweep. Forgive me!!!!!

All is forgiven, Warp. I just hate to see your credibility shattered so easily on such a relatively trivial question. But I'm sure you'll be able to struggle back into the graces of all the others who have relied upon you for so long. All of those who, for that 15 or 20 seconds, were left wondering whether you had lost it.

And Gasket. That is what I usually told the tow truck driver as they were hooking up my MG when they asked why I had broken down. Again.

Like GPM said the gauge on an R3T does not sweep. When you first turn the key on all the idiot lights go on but quickly go off leaving only the Check Engine, oil pressure and neutral lights on.
