Are Oils Just Oils

You may want to educate your dealer and show him the owners manual and have him read a service bulletin or two while he is at it.

Good luck,

Dennis

I would be interested in finding more about the service bulletin you mentioned, is this available to read on line somewhere, if not do you have a copy?

Yes you don't want to run Mobil 1 thats not 4t. It has additives that will shorten the life of your wet clutch. AutoZone carries the Mobil 1 4t at just under 10 bucks a quart. They also will order you a k&n oil filter for the R3 with just a day turn around. KN-191 is the standard filter and I think Flip sells the chrome plated K&N on his site.

Peter, you can kind of disregard what I said with that quote. Since you scanned in what your owners manual said (I don't have mine over here in Afghanistan nor do I have any SB's here either), and it appears that it does give three different choices I may have been a little premature. I was under the impression that the Mobil 4T full synthetic was all that was used after the "break in" oil was drained out on the first service. As others have said if you go anywhere near the 10,000 mile service interval on the Rocket I wouldn't use anything but the full synthetic (while I was in the US in July I went ahead and had the oil changed out at 8,000 miles).
