I got my power commander as part of a package on a used demo bike. I have never previously tried to hook it up to my computer or anything. Now I have a problem with the engine and I tried to querry the PC3 and the software says, "not responding". Is there any sort of step like loading a serial number or anything? It will not give up its map nor will it let me reload the Jardines map. Anybody know what I have done wrong? I have tried it with it in the bike and with it on the bench with a 9 volt battery. I think the PC3 is dead. (Maybe it gave up because it knows I have ordered the TuneBoy!!)

Thanks for the tip Dave. I tried a number of cables and did find that it sort of 'clicks' in the last mm. Still no joy. I thought the removal of the snorkle some how fooled the system into tuning itself to death so to speak. Still not sure, but it appears at least very likely that the power commander is dead. I removed it completely and while I had things open I replaced the secondary plates. I believe I will be able to leave them in when the tune boy arrives.(I have the check in the envelope and will mail it tomorrow.) Then I did the twelve minute tune and took a short ride to get some gas. The de cel pops were as expected but it seems to be idling ok and when the "cheater" is switched on to trick the ECU into 4'th gear it seems to make full power, (by the seat of my pants).
10,000 mile service is due, and I will need a tire shortly, (too many highway miles this summer)

Disconnect it completely, try it on a stand alone PC with the 9-volt battery, and see if the PC talks to PC3. Also, make sure the 02 is disconnected-or connected, depending on how you see it..

First had the problem I tried it on three different computers, (dragged two big ones out of the house and set them up on a table    ) then tried them on the triumph battery and with the nine volt. Yesterday I removed the entire unit physically from the bike, (o2 and all). Then tried once more with the 9 volt adapter and the big computer in the house. No joy. Also tried getting the map from dynajet and sending it to the PC3, (send map) no joy. "Power Commander not responding". I think it sleeps with the fishes. Amazing something potted in epoxy would die, but it did.

I think my PC3 may be at the root of my non-start problem. I'm going to check it now. It's probably close to 10 years old, so anything is possible.
