Does anybody know when and WHY the R3 bottom oil pan configuration was changed? In the '05 service manual it shows the original configuration only, but in my later version manual it shows the original up to engine # 217501 and the newer layout after engine #217502. I have an '05 with engine #2219XX and although there is no build date on the bike, the ECM is dated 11/18/2004. I just thought it strange that I 'de have '04 ECM and a "second generation" oil pan. Any thoughts on trying to figure out Triumph's Da Vinci Code?

They had problems with the 04 model and change the sump for the 05, with a recall on 04 bikes :?

That's interesting Billy. I never heard they changed because of problems? I've always assumed that it made no sense, from a production standpoint, to have to drill and tap one hole on the bottom then a different, possibly two different set ups to drill the ends as opposed to drilling and tapping all three in one set up in the redesign?
My bike was never recalled and has the original type.

Is there any resource that lists engine # ranges by year?
