Just venting here... Its been close to a year since my last maintenance and I've ridden 8000 miles since then. I guess I'm supposed to do the annual instead of waiting the extra couple of months to finish out the 10,000 mile clock? bummer.

I'd rather service sooner. I am not a fan of the 10K intervals. I do my bikes at about 4.5K to 5K. Most of the oils tend to break down much faster than we think and viscosity goes down. An oil change is cheaper than repairs or component wear. Regards

If it's been a year, then yes, do the service. 8,000 miles is still a good distance on 1 oil change.

The 10,000 mile is if you're doing big miles per year & you'd likely cover more than 10,000 if you just did it on an annual basis, hence the 2 change criteria. If you were doing high miles, say 15,000 in a year, then you change at 10,000 miles, more frequently than annually, but if you're doing less than 10,000 a year then do it annually.
