From what I've been told, the 'upgrade' has already been applied to the '08s. First thing I'd check is your clutch adjustment. Lack of proper adjustment seems to be a common set up problem.

The '08 R3T, not necessarily the regular rocket, should have the upgrade kit in it... Triumph transmissions, especially when new, require deliberate shifting.. Also make sure your shift pedal is adjusted properly so you can get a deliberate kick when you shift... Still doesn't hurt to have the dealer check it out though... and if its a couple hundred mi, it wouldn't hurt for them to swap bikes...

Mike...

Interesting, I've never used the heel portion of the shifter. I'm trying to find a single lever shifter that will fit to get rid of that articulated contraption.

I traded from a standard Rocket to Classic last year, with a toe & heel shifter. It was set up so that I couldn't easily get my toe under it to shift up using only the toe, and the heel was set too high for comfort. You can easily alter the length of the link so that you can get your toe under, and it also makes the heel shift lower. It makes for a much more deliberate gear change and I rarely use the heel when riding hard. After running it in for a few hundred miles my gear shift like a sports bike. It only clunks when entering 1st.

Good luck.

there are a few guys ( okay maybe just one) on here who use a speed triple shifter with no linkage......

for me it was all about getting the heel portion of the shifter adjusted right.....

Thanks, I'll take a look next time I'm at the dealer.

I use my heel shifter most of the time. Only time I use my toe lever is down shifting or finding neutral when stopped.

Love the heel toe shifter . . . heel shifts are more positive for me. :D

I use a Honda shifter.

As for road tests, well, upshift is easy, smooth, immediate. Haven't had a slip out since I've done it.

Downshift, that's another story.

Because this shifter is mostly straight, the end of the lever needs to roll toward your heel when you push it down, the rubber booty sticks to the bottom of your boot making the angles and forces needed a little funky.

You get used to it but it's not ideal and still bother me a bit.

I think this design would be ideal:

But I don't have the facilities to make and test one to be sure. it's just a sketch from my head... I haven't been able to find an actual shifter in this shape.
