2nd Gear wheelies

Hi all, I have a 2005 R3 standard, cat box removed, tors, tors tune, and secondary throttle plates removed. Should I be able to get a wheelie in 2nd gear? It comes up real easy in 1st, but barley at all in 2nd. I used to do some hum dingers on my Honda V-65 in 2nd so I don't think it's a technique thing. Is it just my bike or is this normal for a basically stock bike. Any and all feedback appreciated. Fred
 
Just grab a big handfull and it will do a rolling wheelie n 2nd with your setup. It takes a bit of committment....Don't fall offf...
 
V65's were also about 300+ lbs. lighter.

Run up close to read line, shift into second and give gentle tug (to start with) on the bars and watch it come up. :wink: :twisted:
 
I have had more problems than success with wheelies in second gear. It's hit and miss, but better with a car tire, as it hooks up better.
 
if you look at how much the bike weighs, not to mention how much the front wheel, fork assembly etc weighs, its amazing this bike does wheelies as easily as it does.

lower your tire pressure for more traction, and give it hell, of course you also risk wreckign your bike, or slamming your front end down too hard and damaging your bike. BUT thats your call


I went crazy with the wheelies after I made a few mods, but then quickly realized I'm not really experienced in this area, and after a few close calls realized Id rather not wreck my bike, and restrain my wheelies to dragstrip launches...
 
Hi all, so would it be safe to say that even a real good running stock (other than tors and a tors tune) R3 probably isn't going to suddenly rear up on the back wheel in 2nd gear without some "coaxing" ? Fred
 
Uh, I have to say that I startled myself with a 2nd gear wheelie. Now I just brag about it to my Harley buddies.
 
If you want to do 2nd gear wheelies you have to commit the engine and clutch. The problem you may have is rear wheel speed if you're trying it as a rolling wheelie. Don't hammer 1st so hard, shift early and then give it hell. That said, hope you find some cheap replacement parts for what you may bend or break.
 
Thanks to all those who replied. Without easy access to a dyno, drag strip or another R3 (they are extremely rare here in Michigan) I guess this was an attemp to compare my R3 to others performance wise. I'm not real interested in doing 2nd gear wheelies, just want to know I'm getting all the bang I paid for. I've heard some talk of 2nd gear throttle wheelies. Either (1)They are lies! (2)The bike is a ways from stock. (3) My ride is sorry. I trying to find out through general concensus which statement is true. I welcome any and all comments. Thanks again, Fred
