2007 Clutch Upgrade


Thanks dave I always wondered what the 06 and 07 silver motors had in them and it does sound like they were left overs from 05 not that thats bad just trying to figure out stuff to keep in my library of knowledge to asnswer questions when needed. Your the first I know to report on the insides of them. Can you post the engine serial number I want to compare it to my 06. I believe the lifter shafts are the same but I always make sure I have one when I open her up as they are not expensive and it beats waiting on one if you end up needing it.

Ive just got everything out for Detent replacement, I was confused that I have a different lifter shaft than the one shown in Bennys video for clutch renewal, & I have no small radial roller bearing on the shaft. Mine is an 09 Classic so I thought i'de reply as you asked about it.
The first photo is of my bike, second is a still from Bennys video. Hope it shows the difference, I can't tell if it's the heavy duty shaft or not.

Yes you have the newer clutch assembly. Some how Triumph installed an 04-05 clutch in his 08 Classic bike. The only difference is the pressure plate and lifter piece, and what type bearing it has. Yours has a roller bearing instead of the needle thrust bearing. IMHO the newer style is better bearing wise as you get both thrust and radial from the roller bearing.
 
I don't think there is a hard and fast rule on what Triumph put in these bikes. I have seen newer bikes with the older style clutch pusher and vica versa. The Barnett clutch pack works well enough to hold back 290hp supercharged power I have found so I don't know what happened to you Rick. Having said that there is nothing wrong with the MTC plates. They are a fair bit harder/dearer to get out here.
 
I kind of agree with you Nev but suspect they run out of parts on the assembly line and the stuff the old style in the bike knowing it will work. Of course you have been into more of these then I have so you would Know how often it happens. I must admit to liking the MTC fibers over the OEM ones. I could swear sometimes I think I feel the my Carpenter bikes clutch slip a wee bit . Of course sometimes it is the tire. We shall see if she wears out I already have a MTC basket and fibers slated for it.
