The performance comes at the cost of free air flow about the headers... It was tested and designed by the manufacturer that way!
Restricting the air flow may retard performance.. I'm no expert just a fan of this awesome motorcycle.

There's something called exhaust scavenging . Keeping the heat in the pipe with wrap helps flow.
