Anyone Else Lost a Heat Shield Yet?

I guess they work like a rubber well nut. Like what holds the little windshield. The tighter the screw, the more it compresses/expands the rubber. in the hole. I think maybe the thing for those screws is anti seize, and regular checking/tightening. Maybe the rubber hardens/shrinks from the heat over time?
 
I couldn't believe what I was seeing in the pics, the gromet thing sure appears to be backwards. I went out & took one of my heat shields off, yep exactly the same as the pics! Mine are tight in the holes, so I'm unsure of how they're tight? A press fit? surely not. I couldn't see any spot weld to hold them in either though. You'd think these small bits would be welded to the bracket prior to the bracket being welded to the header if they were to be installed like this.
Looking at the parts diagram where these items are identified as #5, they appear to be reversed, ie come from inside the bracket, as the wide flange part is drawn towards the header & the narrower part is pointed towards the shield. Just sayin . . .

those round nuts are welded to pipe bracket (and not very good on yours) vibration probably broke the welds.
does not mater how tight they were if the weld brakes on one the other will break soon.
i guess for checking you knock on them to see if you get a noise/rattle
might be able to put a couple of small welds on top side two welds for each nut
 
I had the exact same problem... the tack welds on mine broke and I lost a heat shield. Dealership replaced the header under warranty, and it happened again to the replacement. I took my bike to a buddy and had him weld each nut better to the bracket. No more problems. Very bad design in my opinion.

So I got no friends... at least none that weld. Is there something like JB Weld that would work? Seems like I've heard of people using that on car exhaust.
 
I guess I should have poked at them when I had it apart. I just took for granted they were rubber that got compressed when the screw was tightened. old eyes

If you epoxied a locking flange nut behind, and then installed the heat shield, it wouldn't matter if the epoxy failed afterwards. Unless you wanted to remove it of course.

Number 1 weld
Number 2 if the nut can be installed under bracket and jbweld
Can another nut be used because when it gets lost then the nuts will be lost with the shield..
Triumph would be happy to sell you another set of pipes that has. The nuts
