Another "What is this" Post

that is the final drive vent
when the final drive gets hot then the air comes out when cool the air goes back in.
the little shiny cap is to keep the water and dirt out.

Ahh. Does it ever need servicing? Seems stuck on pretty tight.

That breather cap is the same thing you get on Diffs...If you have a 4wd truck and want to use it for off road...rivers and mudholes etc, you need to run a hose from there to somewhere alot higher to stop water going into the diff, Of course it dosnt completely stop water getting in cos it finds its way in via seals on the axles. It pays to check your diff oil from time to time for any discoloration..eg. brown mustard color...thats water in there.

i see u treat your truck the same way i treat mine:laugh::laugh::thumbsup::thumbsup:

a lot of the 4x4s have both the 4x4 and the trans vents go up to the top of the engine.
on a lot of gm trucks they have a real small vent aimed at the cat so when the trans got hot it sprayed
atf on the cat and burned. gm said there was nothing wrong but they did a recall and installed a 13 inch hose to go over the trans to exhaust atf on the other side and also invented the locking stick to keep the fluid from coming out the fill pipe and landing on the exhaust and burning down the truck.
we install the 5/16 steel line and if atf comes it is not under pressure and just runs down the side of trans. also the larger will exhaust atf and not blow out the stick out of the fill tube.
