5.75 Daymaker alternatives?

http://www.jwspeaker.com/products/led-headlights-model-8630-evolution/0549911/

Here is what was touted last year, see above, not sure how they compare to HD day makers directly, I think you take your chances with the china stuff, have had other china lights and they are only so so.

Funlove 5.75 Inch Black Led Headlights For Triumph Rocket iii 3 & Speed Triple & Street Triple & Thunderbird

The funlove is from amazon, the light lense has no directional bias, not sure how the light distribution would be. In another time the lense was the key to better lighting, not sure of how the leds work through glass.

still studying the subject myself.

Got it. Daymakers 5 3/4 no. 67700145A. Straight hook up with the proper connections attached. Check any Harley dealership. IMG_0155.JPG

Hard to find cheap + DOT (or E code) approved, and thus legal. Also, the cheapo LED's tend to be crappy. There's probably a reason why the good ones cost a few hundred a pop. I'd still go with Vision X or JW Speaker in 5.75 inch. Or Custom Dynamics Trubeam which basically is a Vision X, as far as I can tell. But they're not the cheapest. Fantastic light output though.

These are probably the best motorcycle headlights in the world right now: 5.75" LED Motorcycle Headlights - Model 8690 Adaptive but the price is... uh, noticeable. Especially for 2.

TruBeam High Performance Motorcycle LED Headlamp - two of those, complete with the adapters that run both low and high beam at once when you use high beam, should be amazing. But... still $400 a pop.

thanks!

that trubeam light is awesome! a really full light pattern and what looks like good reach down the road, I thinks this might be the one for me, would surely install confidence going down the road in the dark! Not cheap, but what is for a motorcycle!! If it saves my butt once, well worth the cost.

Hoopla

Is the light pattern similar to HD daymakers? For those of you with the HDs??

thanks

The Daymakers are JW Speaker lights, built for Harley. They all have that lens effect, so if you're looking at JW Speaker output, a Daymaker will perform the same.

The video on the Custom Dynamics site is fairly accurate I'd say, but that doesn't look like the JW Speaker 8700 Evo 2 that they compare it to, but the 2 generations older 8700. The 8700 Evo 2 would be very close to the Trubeam on light output, but look a little more like the 8700.

This might be of interest, comparos of some of the top 7 inch ones - but the 5.75 inch ones should be pretty darn close.

Comparison of 12 separate 7-inch LED headlight reflectors.

I have a JW Speaker 8700 Evo 2, and it puts out quite a bit of light down the road, but I'd probably be buying the Vision X / Trubeam lights if I were shopping today. The JW Speaker adaptives are great, but a single one of those would run me maybe a grand when all was said and done with customs fees and such.

I found the best deal at Boardtracker HD. Paid $50 less than the $650 they want now.
The ads do NOT reveal true real world testing. I have tested the Daymakers on my R3R and they were better than my partner's new Lexus!
Able to discern an object or person at 300 feet!

Real world testing is seeing the coyote, hog (four legged kind) deer or whatever else is in the highway in time to react and avoid. The real DAYMAKERS do just that.

Exactly! That is why proper testing should be based upon what and where a human can most likely be able to detect and identify, NOT how far a meaningless ray of light is visible!

WOW, got to say that impresses me! 300ft!!! That's exactly what I'm looking for. The TruBeans are about $200 more for the pair, not that price is the end all when one wants the best for safety. I haven't felt safe at night for some time now, I think these new lights will change that. Looks like that there are several good choices out there.

Thanks (these goes more of my tax return)

Meh. People saying Daymakers are somehow magically delicious. They're just LED headlights made by JW Speaker. There was a brief moment when the Daymakers were one generation newer than the JW Speaker at the time, but that's not the case anymore. Buying a new, top-of-the-line JW Speaker will get you just as much light or more. They're hardly likely to subcontract out better lights than they sell themselves.

Also, the design of the Vision X Vortex almost certainly throws the high beam further. And I say that as a JW Speaker user.

That said, the difference between these top of the range LED reflectors will be small.

And if you buy JW Speaker or Vision X, you don't get stuck with "Harley Davidson" stamped on your headlight!
