I'm embarking on my 7000mi trip from California to Cape Cod and back in the last 2 weeks of May, provided the world doesn't blow up by then, and am looking for a set of tires that will make the whole trip. I'm sticking to interstate other than a 40mi detour over Talimena Scenic Highway in Oklahoma on the way back so tire longevity is important. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

If you can find them ... Avon Cobra Chrome have lasted me 10K to 12K miles. Otherwise Metzler Cruise Tech if you want matched tires. Others buy the Bridgestone Exedra rear and for the front a Michelin Road 5 or Road 6 rear tire in 150/70/17 size and turn it around.

I'm running the Dunlop Elite 4 in the front and Exedra Max on the rear right now. The Exedra is only good for about 3000mi and I don't know yet about the Dunlop but another one of those might do the trip. I'm trying to stay away from Metzeler and don't care about same brand/type on both wheels.

I know what you mean about Metzler. I feel that way too. However with few choices anymore it is good to know the Metzler Cruise tech are vastly improved, I mean vastly improved over the ME80 and ME888. We ran the Cruise Tech tires on our Rocket 3 GT at Bonneville Salt Flats to get our 2 Land Speed Records there. The tires have good grip on road and on the salt. I am putting a set on my other 2005 Rocket III.

I have several friends who are running the Dunlop AE-2. I like the dual compound construction where the center of the tire has a tough long mileage rubber compound and the sides have a softer compound with more grip. I just had one installed on my Touring model, don't know if they make the roadster size or not.
