Hi guys I'm a new owner of a 2008 Rocket love the bike but it has a whine coming from the clutch area. I know that the clutch basket is gear driven off the crank shaft, so would this be the cause? and if so would switching to maybe 20/50 oil help? I don't know what grade is in there now, but it was changed before I bought it...it has 7500 miles on it

Could be worn in one of the gears .....does the whine change in different gears or is it constant thru-out all gears...?
Does it sound metalic or a lack of oil sound?
If it was in Australia you would start by removing all Pommie bastards from the area to rule out the possibility of you hearing a 'whinge' rather than a 'whine'.
Rockets use all straight cut gears (except one on the output shaft). They are cheaper to manufacture, but are noisy. On the plus side, they have lower frictional loss than helical gears. Like @phar2slo said, louder pipes !
