What kind of oil are you using?

I love my new Rocket 3 Touring, but the dealer is saying that the oil Triumph says to use at the 500 mile break-in is Mobil 15W-50 synthetic and the price is $65./Gal. I need 1.5 Gal which would run me about $95 + $15 for the oil filter. He said that Triumph claims that Mobil is the only source for 15W-50 synthetic oil. This is total bull**** because I can find several brands of this weight oil at.............AMAZON.COM ..They have the Mobil 1 for $46.95 for 6 quarts + free shipping! Is this the best oil for the R3? Or is there something that's as high a quality and cheaper? What say you!
 
I use Mobile 1 MC oil and get it at the local auto supply for about $8.50 a quart. And by the way, your dealer is way out of line on the price for a gal of the Triumph oil. The last time I bought a gal it was about $52.00.
 
One of the problems one might have is getting 15-50 at the auto parts stores. I checked a couple of weeks ago and they had 10-40 and 20-50 in the Mobile 1 as I recall. They guy told me they could get anything I wanted within a couple of days though. The stuff Kragen Auto Parts sells is specified for motorcycles. One thing to consider is periodicity. The manual requires changing oil every 10K. I do it at 5K but might reconsider. I am coming up for the 20K service and the oil still looks almost new.
 
About 3 years ago, someone posted an e-mail they got from Mobil 1.

If I remember correctly The Triumph Oil was the Mobil 1 MX4T Rebadged, exact same oil.

Anyone else remember this post?

Anyway that's what I put in it, and I get it from Walmart, $13 instead of $20-$22 elsewhere. That's all in $ CAD for a litre.
 
That was the post that got me buying my oil at the auto supply. The 4XT is what I buy. What weight do you use Rook?
 
I thought that 10-40 was the way to go in these parts...

Now that's what I call a price.

Does the Triumph chrome oil cap over fit over the Flip's Emgo filters? I'm just about done with paying $15.50 for a $6 filter.
